North Stars Level 9 and 10 Gymnasts Capture First Place at NJ State Championships

March 29, 2017

This past weekend, the NJ Level 9/10 State Championship was held at Gymland School of Gymnastics in Hamilton, NJ. The meet featured 180 gymnasts total, with 33 representing North Stars Gymnastics. For both Level 9 and Level 10, North Stars won the team all-around.

Level 9 gymnasts from North Stars who competed in the meet were Mia Davis, Emily Castiglia, Hannah Loyim, Madison Vitolo, Isabel Lin, Raine Smith, Emma Loyim, Kathryn Scallon, Delaney Sniffen, Megan Smith, Alyssa Dillon, Gianna St. Louis and Sophie Bruskof. Many of these gymnasts earned the highest score of their age group on one or more events.

Vitolo and Smith were both named the vault state champion for their age group. In another age group, sisters Emma and Hannah Loyim, were also named state champions; Emma on bars and Hannah on beam. Davis competed in the same age group and placed first on vault, floor and the all-around.

Level 10 gymnasts representing North Stars in the meet were Simone Banen, Kaylee Quinn, Alonza Klopfer, Ava Caravela, Stephanie Tripodi, Yolanda Nodarse, Olivia Orlando, Emily Liszewski, Tiara DeTommaso, Danielle Liska, Sophia Restaino, Mariella Miele, Annabella Scaglione, Emma Itoh, Samantha Davis, Rachael Lukacs, Miranda Mornhineway, Anneliese Silverman, Nicola St. Louis and Katherine McGowan. Having the highest all-around team score for Level 10 was a combined effort, but some of these gymnasts also captured first place individually.

Tripodi, Nodarse and Orlando were each named balance beam state champion for their age group. In the Senior B age group, Lukacs placed first on vault, while Banen won bars, floor and the all-around.

The NJ State Championship marks the first meet of the post season. Qualifying gymnasts from states will compete at the 2017 Level 9/10 Regional Championship next month. Regionals will be held April 6-9 at the PG Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD.

“All the girls looked very strong at States, but I expect Regionals to be a notch higher as we will prepare for Nationals,” said coach, Tony Gehman.
